About Quilt Designs

Our Story

Quilt Designs started in 2011 when Sarah Whitfield began selling her original quilt patterns at craft fairs and local quilt guild meetings around Asheville. Demand grew quickly, and by 2013 she opened a small storefront on Lexington Avenue in the heart of downtown Asheville. Today the shop carries over 80 original patterns, a carefully curated fabric selection, and a full range of quilting notions and supplies.

Sarah still designs every pattern herself, drawing inspiration from the colors and textures of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Each pattern is tested by a team of volunteer quilters before release to make sure the instructions are clear and the measurements are accurate.

Our Philosophy

We believe quilting should be accessible and enjoyable at every skill level. Our patterns include detailed instructions with color diagrams, cutting charts, and tips for pressing and assembly. We write for the quilter who wants to learn, not just follow steps. Many of our customers tell us our patterns taught them techniques they had been afraid to try.

We are selective about the fabrics we carry. Every bolt in the shop is hand-picked for color, print quality, and hand feel. We focus on 100% cotton quilting fabric from mills we trust, and we update our selection with each new season.

Our Team

Our team of 5 includes Sarah, two shop associates, a shipping coordinator, and a part-time bookkeeper. Everyone on staff is a quilter, so you will always get advice from someone who has hands-on experience with the products we sell.

For order or billing questions, contact our office at accounting@quiltdesigns.com. We accept all major credit cards and PayPal.

We are occasionally looking for part-time shop associates who love quilting and enjoy helping customers. If that sounds like you, send a note to jobs@quiltdesigns.com and tell us about your quilting background.

Quilt Guild Partnerships

We work with quilt guilds across western North Carolina to provide trunk shows, guest lectures, and group discounts. If your guild is interested in a partnership, email Sarah directly at sarah@quiltdesigns.com to discuss options.
